Le but de cet article est de présenter les principes de gestion des polices de TeX, leurs modes d’utilisation ainsi que le modèle de fonte employé, qui est plus simple que celui de PostScript. Nous montrons également les mécanismes complexes de sélection qui n’apparaissent pas en usage courant et nous terminons par une présentation des principaux fichiers utilisés par TeX.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the principles of the handling of the fonts in TeX together with their usage, and the pattern of the fonts which is more straightforward than in PostScript. We also explain the complex mechanisms of selection which do not usually appear, and finally we present virtual fonts as well as various files used with TeX.
